Supermarket chains like Tesco are really struggling because they have built huge supermarkets thinking this is what people want. Actually people seem to be shopping more frequently and shopping tactically – they no longer seem to want one huge store to serve on ‘big shop’ per week.
Personally I hate my local hypermarket because just picking up the essentials – bread and milk etc. takes five minutes because I have to walk the entire length of the store and back to the check-out.
Brilliant Idea #233 is to build a convenience shop within the entrance of the hypermarket. I then get the benefit of ease of access and parking that I don’t get in the convenience store as well as the convenience of not having to walk half a mile!
